Spend time in the fabulous Lawn Hill National Park. Cross the path of the ill-fated Burke & Wills expedition and pay a visit to the historic Gulf towns. Surely a "Great Australian Safari". Itinerary

DAY 1 DARWIN - KAKADU (LD)
This morning we leave Darwin and travel into Kakadu National Park. We cross the South Alligator River where we will visit Ubirr, famous for its rock art and views of the East Alligator River floodplain. On to our three night base camp in the heart of Kakadu with time to visit the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre.

DAY 2 KAKADU NATIONAL PARK (BD)
Spectacular Aboriginal rock art at Nourlangie Rock then browse and lunch (own expense) at the world class Bowali Visitor Centre. A sunset cruise (optional) on Kakadu's world famous Yellow Waters Billabong to see a myriad of birds and wildlife, including saltwater crocodiles.

DAY 3 KAKADU NATIONAL PARK (BL)
Travel to the Arnhem Land escarpment to walk and swim at magnificent Jim Jim Falls. Return to camp after a wonderful day of discovery, swimming and 4WD adventure. Enjoy a relaxing dinner (own expense) before retiring for the evening.

DAY 4 KAKADU - KATHERINE GORGE (BLD)
Leaving Kakadu today we explore and swim at Maguk (Barramundi Gorge). Continuing on we visit Pine Creek, an historic gold mining town. Supplies in Katherine before making our way to Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) National Park, our overnight camp.

DAY 5 KATERINE - MATARANKA (BLD)
This morning before leaving Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) National Park a chance to relax, bush walk or enjoy a cruise up the famous gorge (optional). On to Mataranka Hot Springs to swim and relax in the crystal clear thermal pool. We camp at Mataranka tonight. Dinner is at your own expense this evening.

DAY 6 ROPER BAR - BUTTERFLY SPRINGS (BLD)
This morning we travel the Roper Highway to remote Roper Bar, where explorer Ludwig Leichhardt crossed in 1845. We continue on the “Great North Road” and on to Butterfly Springs for two nights.

DAY 7 LIMMEN NATIONAL PARK (BLD)
Today we venture into Limmen National Park to see spectacular carved sandstone pillars known as “Lost City” formations. Millions of years of water and wind erosion have sculptured an ancient seabed into these incredible shapes.

DAY 8 BORROLOOLA - QUEENSLAND - RIVERSIDE (BLD)
This morning we visit Borroloola, infamous frontier town, before crossing into Queensland on the Queensland Road, once used by the legendary "Overlanders", now “The Savannah Way”. Tonight our camp is at a remote Gulf river.

DAY 9 HELLS GATE - ADELS GROVE - LAWN HILL NATIONAL PARK (BLD)
Cross the Nicholson River and travel past Hell’s Gate through Lawn Hill cattle station, one of Queensland’s most remote. Adel’s Grove, gateway to Lawn Hill National Park, is our two-night camp.

DAY 10 LAWN HILL NATIONAL PARK - RIVERSLEIGH FOSSIL FIELDS (BLD)
A leisurely day in the National Park to relax, swim, canoe (optional) and explore the many walking tracks at this unbelievable oasis. In the afternoon a chance to take a tour to the World Heritage listed Riversleigh Fossil Fields (optional).

DAY 11 LAWN HILL NATIONAL PARK - BURKETOWN (BLD)
Leaving Lawn Hill National Park we cross the Mitchell Grass plains, spinifex clad ranges and the inviting Gregory River. We camp in Burketown tonight.

DAY 12 NORMANTON - KARUMBA (BL)
Across the "Plains of Promise" on our way to Leichhardt Falls, before visiting Burke & Wills camp #119, the most northerly camp of the ill-fated 1860 expedition. We pass through Normanton before heading for Karumba on the Gulf of Carpentaria, tonight’s camp. Dinner is at your own expense this evening.

DAY 13 CROYDON - GEORGETOWN - UNDARA LAVA TUBES (BLD)
Visit Normanton, home of the historic "Gulflander" train, before passing through the historic gulf towns of Croydon, Georgetown and Mt Surprise on the way to our camp at Undara.

DAY 14 UNDARA LAVA TUBES - ATHERTON TABLELANDS - CAIRNS (BL)
This morning you can explore the Lava Tubes (optional), acclaimed as the largest and longest lava tube system in the world. Leaving behind the Tropical Savannah’s we visit the Atherton Tableland's “The Crater” National Park and unique Curtain Fig Tree. This afternoon we arrive in Cairns bringing to an end your safari of adventure and discovery in Australia’s Tropical Savannahs.
